Thank you, Josh Satterlee, Somnio's Rockstar Summer Intern, for a great summer of Facebookin', forecastin' and consumer supportin'!!!

Who was the witty, smarty pants blogging for Somnio this summer??  Josh, an MBA student at Purdue University, spent the summer with us at  Somnio HQ as an intern and is road tripping  back to Lafayette, Indiana starting this weekend.  While at Somnio, Josh more than doubled Somnio’s “Likes” on Facebook, managed Somnio contests, built an impressive inventory model, entered more sales orders than he could have every imagined, answered your consumer emails, phone calls and much, much more!!  For those of you in or around Indiana, Josh leaves as a trained Somnio Fitter and will be representing Somnio’s Affiliate Program as a Somniac in Lafayette.  Look him up to get measured on the Line Up Device when he’s back in town.

Thanks for your great work, Josh, and best of luck in your last year of school!!

Somnio Success Story

Nothing makes us feel better than helping someone exceed their running expectations. Sometimes we just feel like sharing an email that we receive. This one comes to us from Kim in Santa Cruz.

“My husband and I ran the Wharf to Wharf yesterday in our new shoes and felt great! I feel like I dodged a bullet. I was just starting to get some heel pain when we came to see you and that is completely gone since I’ve been running in my Somnio shoes. And since I’ve been feeling good, I’ve been running longer distances than before, so that’s even better.”

Congratulations Kim! Please send us your comments and they could be featured on our new testimonial section on our homepage! Studies Show Gait Analysis Offers Best Fit For Shoes, Not Foot Structure

Check out this story in the New York Times today. A recently published military study shows that running shoes can create injuries when the fit process only takes a runner’s foot structure in into consideration.

“You can’t simply look at foot type as a basis for buying a running shoe,” says Dr. Bruce H. Jones, the manager of the Injury Prevention Program for the U.S. Army’s Public Health Command, and senior author of the military studies.

This is exactly why Somnio was created.  Somnio shoes are fitted using both the Somnio Line-up device and our gait analysis software. We realize that running injury free is about more than just feet and shoes. We look at the whole gait and determine how to help correct the alignment of each runner.

33 Days Done with Row; Lennox 800 Miles from Row End

With 33 days almost completed, Don Lennox is well on his way to completing his row across the Atlantic by entering the final 800 miles. His team has successfully rowed 2400 miles. Lennox is trying to row across the Atlantic and then run across the United States – all in 100 days and break the record for this impressive feat. Lennox will break the record for rowing across the Atlantic when it docks at St. Mary’s on the Isles of Scilly. The team will then do a full day’s worth of rowing to Falmouth, England. Lennox is attempting to do this to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org). The charity helps support wounded soldiers who return back home.

Lennox and his crew broke their own record for most miles rowed in a day on July 14th. The new record is 118 miles. Earlier in the row they broke the old record with a day of 117 miles. You can see his daily log at www.oceanrowing.com/Artemis/2010/dist_map.htm.

According to Lennox, the Atlantic waters have become very choppy and hard to row quickly. The team is anxiously awaiting its encounter with the Queen Mary. The crew plans on boarding the Queen Mary to eat at some of her “high class restaurants” as the crew is ready for something other than their basic food they have onboard.

Lennox’s running route across the United States will be unveiled shortly. Runners across the country are strongly encouraged to run with him for a portion of his run. He will being doing the run in a kilt… but kilts are optional for those that want to be part of this epic journey and run alongside him for a few miles. Somnio shoes will be supplying Lennox with the shoes necessary to finish his trek.

Somnio Shoes are "Super Cute"

We think our shoes are quite dashing, but you don’t have to take our word for it. On Friday, 5 Miles Past Empty did a review on the Somnio Pacemakers. The comments following the review made us blush. The shoes were called “super cute” by more than one commenter.  Not only are the shoes fashionable, but 5 Miles Past Empty says they have helped her  run faster.

“So do I think this shoe will make me run real fast, as in the same way I believed when I was 8? No. Not exactly. But I did notice that in both runs of 3 mile my pace was a good 8 seconds faster per mile. That is pretty darn good! I do believe that this shoe will help me train for TWO more marathon’s in 2010 and do so injury free,” states 5 Miles Past Empty.

Somnio Makes Footwear News

Somnio was recently written up in Footwear News. The article highlights Somnio’s entry into the casual shoe business.  The casual shoes are being released after huge customer demand for the Somnio F.E.A.T. system (Functionally Engineered Adaptable Tricomponent) in their casual shoes.

Footwear News also mentions Eneslow, the New York City dealer, that will soon be carrying Somnio products. Eneslow will also have the high-tech gait analysis software developed by Somnio.

“The gait software allows us to look at shoes with the customer and help them better understand their options,” said Bob Schwartz, CEO and president of Eneslow. “We plan to use the gait assessment system to increase medical referrals for our medical director.”
